È un peccato che di questo autore in Italia siano stati tradotti solo i libri per bambini e ragazzi, tralasciando quindi gialli come questo. Anthony Horowitz, tra le tante esperienze come sceneggiatore di serie televisive, ha avuto l'onore di portare in vita sul piccolo schermo Poirot, e proprio da quello e dalle sue ricerche per scrivere romanzi apocrifi su Sherlock Holmes è stato ispirato a scrivere questo giallo vecchia maniera. Eh sì, perché gli indizi e la tecnica per la soluzione del mistero sono tutti alla Conan Doyle, mentre il protagonista principale (che in realtà è l'autore stesso Horowitz proprio con il suo nome in un mondo misto di personaggi creati per l'occasione e fatti e persone reali) non può non ricordare il caro vecchio Hastings, che fedelmente segue il suo amico investigatore e ne riporta le mosse, senza capire minimamente dove voglia andare a parare.
